Why George Orwell?

Many phrases from Orwell’s work – Big Brother, Room 101, Doublethink and Newspeak – are still widely used today.

Perhaps too often, they are used as convenient shorthand for describing aspects of a changing world - national security, new technologies and a political culture that seems entirely focused on the mass media.

During the tour we explore the origins of all of these ideas, and look at the social and historical context of Orwell’s work.
